I converted this truck to electric power with my son Michael in 2000, and he drove it to and from high school for a year and a half.
It runs on 13 twelve volt batteries, a DCP Raptor 600
controller, a motor from a German forklift, and lots of handcrafted parts put
together by trial and error and a lot of advice from our friend Brian Hall at
Thunderstruck Motors. See http://www.thunderstruck-ev.com/
The coolest part is how the pickup bed lifts up to get at the batteries. That and going 70 miles per hour and hearing nothing but the hum of the tires on the road.
When Michael went on to college we sold the truck to a nice lady from Berkeley, who had great plans for further improvements.
