I
live in the small town of Graton, California, in Sonoma County’s coastal wine
country. Many of my paintings
are done on site, en plein air, with sometimes a final polish in my
studio. I paint both watercolors and oils. I occasionally teach watercolor classes and
travel workshops to places like Italy and Costa Rica, where I take a lot of photos. Teaching
is an important aspect of my work, since it allows me to articulate my
process and invent educational products such as the Fanning Color Disk. I was one of the founders of the Graton
Gallery and sometimes have exhibits in other venues. I founded the Monday Morning Painters,
a program of weekly outdoor paint outs that is free of charge and open to
painters of all levels of experience. Full details on my art career are
summed up in my resume. Writing has always been an
important part of my daily routine, starting with poetry and fiction, moving
on to self-help books,
and painting instruction articles.
I also enjoy more hands-on creative projects such as restoring cars, making films,
building barns,
harpsichords, airplanes,
and electric vehicles. I hope you enjoy my site. If you have any questions or comments, send me an email. |
